Tending to the Fleet
Fleet vehicles like Mercedes Sprinter vans undergo more stress than regular vehicles because they are in constant use for their thriving businesses. This means the normal maintenance schedule becomes more accelerated because the vehicle itself is wearing more quickly. Our ASE Certified technicians can recommend preventative maintenance services that will keep your vehicle operating smoothly and also perform the emergency repairs that pop up when you least expect them. Preventative maintenance includes services like oil changes and tire rotation to help your vehicle perform properly mile after mile. The services you can’t plan for, like tire repair after a blow out or engine repair after a misfire, require immediate attention and our technicians are here to help when you need us!
How Often Should My Fleet Be Serviced?
Planning your Sprinter maintenance appointments means you are planning on time your vehicle is not on the job. We understand you will want to keep those appointments as few and far between so that you aren’t missing out on your vehicle being out on the road! Mercedes have created a maintenance schedule for its sprinter vans that accounts for the accelerated wear on your vehicle due to its consistent use. At intervals of 10,000 miles, they recommend services such as fluid replacement, brake inspection, and oil filter changes. Then every 20,000 miles, they add brake fluid exchange and cabin air filter replacements, as well. Our technicians take into account the factory recommended service schedule, but we also know every vehicle and every driver are different. We will work with you to create a flexible maintenance plan that keeps your Sprinter running smoothly and on the road. Come by the shop today at E Wisconsin Avenue to discuss how we can keep your business on the road.
Frequently Asked Questions
Sprinters are commercial-duty vans built for load, long idle, and high miles. Repairs prioritize uptime, durability, and payload effects on brakes and suspension, and use the correct Mercedes oil approvals (MB 229.xx) to protect engines that run hard for long hours.
Frequent concerns include diesel performance and emissions warnings, transmission shift changes under load, suspension/brake wear from payload, and electrical/sensor faults. On emissions systems, we often see DEF quality/level sensor issues, NOx sensor faults, DPF ash loading, and SCR catalyst efficiency messages that need proper testing—not guesswork.
Many Sprinters are diesel. Accurate diagnosis means understanding high-pressure fuel systems, turbo/boost control, and aftertreatment: DPF, SCR/DEF, EGR, and NOx sensors. We verify DEF quality and level, confirm DPF load/regen status, and check NOx sensor data so parts are replaced only when testing proves the fault.
Stop-start routes, long idle, and hauling accelerate filters, fluids, and brake/suspension wear. We set PM by duty cycle and payload, monitor DPF ash loading and DEF system health, and keep an eye on shocks, bushings, pads/rotors sized for the weight you carry—reducing unplanned downtime.
Sprinters closely monitor engine, emissions, and drivetrain. Ignoring a warning can lead to reduced power or limp mode, forcing a tow and losing route time. Early checks catch issues like DEF quality/level faults, NOx sensor failures, or rising DPF load before they cascade into bigger, costlier repairs.
