Safety Tips: Using Your Car Defroster Correctly

SAFE USE OF CAR DEFROSTERS

Hey there! With winter just around the corner, we all know how frosty our car windows can get. There are some things we should keep in mind when using our car defroster. Let's get into the safe use of car defrosters.

1. Turn On Defroster:

When turning on the defroster, start with a low heat setting. Blasting high heat on a cold window can cause a crack on your windshield especially if it's chipped.

2. Air Flow is Key:

For the defroster to work well, the air inside the car needs to circulate. So, if your car is packed with stuff, clear some space, especially near the front and back windows. More airflow means faster defrosting.

3. Don't Use Sharp Objects:

Sometimes, we're in a hurry and might think of using a metal credit card or something sharp to scrape off the ice. Nope, bad idea as it can scratch your windows. If you need to scrape, use a car scraper - they're made just for that.

4. Check for Obstructions:

Make sure the air intake, located outside of the car in the windshield wiper cowl isn't blocked. Leaves and snow can block good air flow and increase the humidity slowing the defrosting process.

5. Turn On the A/C:

"A/C in the winter? Are you kidding?" However, the A/C system can help remove moisture inside the car, making the defrosting process faster. Just make sure the temperature setting is warm. The A/C setting should be automatically activated when the defrost button is switched on but if not make sure the A/C is on."

6. Maintenance is Essential:

Our cars need some love too. If you notice your defroster or A/C isn't working well, it's a good idea to get it checked. It's better to be safe than sorry.

Now that you're a car defroster expert, remember always to use it the right way. It's not just about keeping our windows clear; it's about staying safe on the road. So, the next time you see that frost on your car, you'll know exactly what to do. Keep warm, stay safe, and happy driving!
