Transmission Troubles in Your Mercedes-Benz

An Ounce of Prevention

Congratulations on owning your Mercedes-Benz! You already know how awesome your German beauty is. Like any vehicle, however, your Mercedes can develop transmission trouble over time. Although you can’t avoid everything forever, the best way to keep your transmission operating as it should over time is to have it professionally serviced at appropriate intervals. Consult your owner’s manual for the manufacturer’s recommendations. If you’re unclear or need assistance, one of our ASE-certified technicians or other staff members will be glad to assist you. Once you’re ready for the services that will help you prevent transmission trouble or for other Mercedes-Benz repairs, rely on Silver Lake Auto & Tire Centers in Brookfield, Wisconsin, as your dealership alternative.

Signs You Might Need a Cure

Even with prevention, you may eventually encounter a transmission problem in your European import. It won’t improve on its own, and delaying the work can cause more extensive damage. It’s time for a cure. Although we’ll need to check your auto to make a definitive diagnosis, we’re happy to share some signs of transmission trouble that you should watch for. For instance, if you hear whining or clunking as you drive, have us inspect your car to identify if this is the transmission or something else. Likewise, if you experience rough shifts between gears, there are several things we need to check. Your vehicle may be low on transmission fluid, or there could be other worn or damaged parts. Further, if you feel your automobile come out of gear unexpectedly, this is likely a slipping transmission. A similar experience includes a delay between the time you try to accelerate and the time the vehicle moves. If you smell something burning, the transmission could be too hot. Perhaps the transmission fluid is too low, degraded, or the wrong type. Since the fluid helps cool this major component, you’ll want to take care of the problem and not continue driving with an overheating transmission. Finally, you might have a dragging clutch in a manual if you hear grinding when you try to shift and/or have difficulty changing to the next gear.
