Is Something Wrong With Your Engine?

For the untrained eye, understanding the condition of your engine can be tricky. The good thing about your engine is that unlike other components, it will let you know when it isn’t properly functioning, but it’s up to you to know the signs. Here are a couple signs you can pay attention to.

Noisy Engine

If you start hearing a strong, banging noise coming from your engine, that’s a clear sign something is wrong. When this occurs, please make sure you stop driving your vehicle and have it serviced immediately. Although most engines experiencing this will already need some sort of repair, continuing to drive and ignoring those repairs could cause significant damage to your engine. You may even need a complete engine rebuild!

Colored Smoke

When properly functioning, your vehicle should release colorless fumes. If you notice a colored smoke coming from your vehicle, something may be going on with your engine. There are three colors you need to pay attention to — white, black, and blue. White smoke means coolant and water has leaked into the combustion chamber and is mixing with the fuel. If you check the oil with a dipstick and it is brown and gooey, that’s another sign of a combustion chamber leak. Black smoke simply means your engine is “running rich,” which means that the fuel to air ratio is unbalanced and there isn’t enough air present Blue smoke means engine oil has leaked into the fuel and is being mixed with it.

Although all of these situations should be quickly serviced, please visit us immediately if you notice white or blue smoke coming from your vehicle! The circumstances leading to that smoke can cause serious damage to your vehicle if not handled promptly!
